You might have missed it, but in that scene where he steals the Keyblade, he does reveal he was the original chosen wielder of the Keyblade. It doesn't make Donald and Goofy's abandonment of Sora any less irritating, but it is understandable that, in the moment, they, or at least Donald, chose to follow their orders to the letter first. Sora only got the Keyblade because Riku willingly accepted the darkness (it was actually he who opened the Keyhole of the Destiny Islands, which allowed them to pour in), and Sora was the next nearest contender. Riku stealing the Keyblade was him trying to reassert control of the Keyblade before the moment Sora proved he earned it.Now...to get my own Dragonfruit Energy Lockseed...
I didn't so much miss it as disregard it, as there is no way in hell he should know he was the chosen wielder. And they never met the entity that sent them the keyblade, and the keyblade itself is not talking, and also it's actions seem to contradict itself on that. Such coming from Riku, someone that is not knowledgeable on the capabilities of a keyblade, is not an explanation for me.
And if they met that individual later...that is fixing that in hindsight, and not in the narrative of this single game.
To be fair, it did come out of nowhere. And actually that is the case, we do meet said individual responsible for Riku getting the Keyblade later. That said, yes, that's fixing in hindsight, and not explaining or even so much just hinting at it in that specific game. The franchise tends to do that and while, as a fan, it doesn't bother me as much...yeah, I can see how it's frustrating. Still is, actually, even AS a fan.
Actually I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts and I feel your critique is well thought out, it is definitely not annoying, not in the slightest. I also agreed that as a story, it is a huge mess, but as a character's story, it is actually really good since I enjoyed almost all of the characters in the franchise including the villains. Thus I will be looking forward when you review the sequel, though I suggest you played Chains of Memories (which in my opinion, is a bad spin off game) and the 1.5HD remix of KH2 for the best experience.
wait isn't the one for kh 2 2.5?
good review, but you forgot to mencion one boss, the apropiatley named foryou "unkhnown" aka xemnas.i mention this because the special version of kh2 has a bunch of new bosses, also for that problem you had with 1.5, yea 2.5 has an extra dificulty that will make things "easyer" and with that i mean you take so much damage it doesn.t even matter
