Tokusatsu in Review: Kamen Rider Taisen

Shinta loses complete objectivity in reviewing the latest Credit on Shoji Yonemura’s resume, and what can be viewed as the worst Kamen Rider movie yet made.

Before beginning this review, please note that I had a very volatile reaction to this movie as I could simply not comprehend the Showa Riders acting the way they do in this film simply from my experiences with their series, and that is reflected in my words and actions in reviewing this movie. If you love it, think it's a good Film?
Stop. Here.
You like it, but think it has flaws? I still caution you away. To me this was an Idiot Plot, and my criticisms are reflective of such.

So I didn't get on That Guy with the Glasses

And I’m Bummed, and a few other emotions I’d rather not get into.

But that’s okay.

'Cause inevitably? I gotta do this for me.  Me, and for all of those that DO watch.
And not because It’s the only thing that’s earned me money while I’ve spent the last 3 freaking years constantly applying Thousands of times for entry-level and temp work.
Oddly, TGWTG is the first company to send me a rejection letter and not just leave me entirely hanging.  Ironic, No?

I don’t have a lot of friends, I don’t have a lot of Fans. Or Viewers. But those I do, I’m thankful for.
Besides, I’m working with and have connected with some fun people.

But from what I’ve seen from this talent pickup?
The people that got on did so by being known personalities in their own right already even before being chosen, having long networked in most of their cases.
While it puts it even harder for the newbies trying to get in the door—especially if they do something that’s not part of the mainstream—or the vets still struggling with the same, it shows I need to network more as well.
A Lot more.
Far, Far more than I am comfortable with.
I have Extreme (ridiculously extreme) social anxiety, and while doing this show has helped a lot with that, I can’t have that keep me back from trying to connect with other people.
I also need to try and be funnier, more entertaining; not just nitpick and show ways how a narrative could have been improved. Don’t just be angry at idiocy, do more skits (as much as I can with 0 budget), stretch for the jokes that I might not find funny, but someone else could.
And try to do more short material. While I like looking at series and longer narratives, it wears on you; you know?
…Well, that’s something for next year. I’m editing my September/October episodes right now, and Have rough’s for everything through December right now.

Yes, I work that far in advance. I have for a LONG time now.  It’s how I consistently release video’s that can at times run upwards of 40 minutes in length on a weekly schedule for two years.

Anyways, thanks for everyone that watches, thanks to my cohorts on Manic Expression and ROTC/Independent Mayhem, and Peers on RVT, Geekvision, RTGomerProductions and other reviewer sites I haven’t discovered.

Hi, I’m Davis. On the Internet, I go by Des Shinta. I’m 25, and live in the Midwest.

Cameo: The literary lair "the Road not taken"

In a new short film, Michael becomes disillusioned by the show and thinks about ending it.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
~Robert Frost

Michael asked for cameo's, and wanted to return a favor for some of the unused stuff I had left over from the lightning returns.
Check him out, he does a scripted-Vlog style book reviews (a subject material lacking in reviewers for obvious reasons--lack of visual media to put in the video) and a series on how problematic shows and movies could have been fixed.

Cameo: Decker Shado Reviews: Aliens

From decker: "How do you make a sequel that's so good, people argue over if it or the original were better for years to come? One idea is to try doing something very different than the first. At least this way, the film is not simply "The Movie: Again" and you have a chance to expand the universe in smart ways. Such is the case with Aliens, directed by James Cameron. While not straight horror like it's predecessor, it helped flesh out the setting a lot more and gave us a bunch of depth for the creatures in question. So... what do I have to say about it? Besides all that, I mean."

Brief Cameo at the beginning, but go watch because Decker is awesome.

The Toshiki Inoue Drinking game

Really should have posted this earlier, but just to make it an official list.

The Toshiki Inoue Drinking Game!

To be played whenever you watch a series Toshiki Inoue wrote on.

Once again, thanks to Ian Titular AKA Ukiyaseed of orends Range for inspiring this game.

And now, the list:

1. First off, take a shot Every time any of the characters are forced into a body of water. Be they thrown, Trip, Jump, shoved, fall, or whatever.
  • · Take another one if the method they enter the water involves a bridge.
  • · And a third if the person sent into the water is believed to be dead.

2. Take a shot every time a transformation trinket is used by anyone that is not their primary user.
  • · Take a second one if it happens to be Faiz’ rider gears.
3. Take a shot every time a new toy-based special weapon, enemy type, vehicle or power is used to defeat a new enemy, then appears to be forgotten. You can tell which these are, as they will be used between one and three times, then are completely forgotten; or are showcased and end up not being used again for five-to-ten episodes.

4. Take a shot every time there is a misunderstanding among the main cast that causes conflict OR a blatant failure to communicate that cannot be justified as part of characterization.

5. Take a shot every time there’s a love triangle.
  • ·  if the love story that causes the love triangle ends in some form of tragedy, take another
6. Take a Shot If a conflict is caused by a love triangle.
For those that are wondering, you should take three shots at once If there’s an argument that involves some type of love triangle: one for the fight, one for the romantic subtext, and one for the daily double of the two at the same time.

7. Take a shot if the recurring bad guys come in a multiple of four.

8. Take a shot any time a character gets Amnesia.

9. Take a shot when the final arc of the show leaves you wanting, is anticlimactic, or doesn’t really end the show that’s wrapping up.

10. Take a shot every time there’s a jerk or asshole character added to the cast.
  • Take another if and when it’s revealed the jerk has a heart of gold,
  • Take an additional two if the jerk is revealed to be an irredeemable asshole.
Though You only need to take them when they’re added to the cast or have that revelation about them.

11. Take a shot EEEEEE~EVERY Time you find a recycled story plot you’ve seen in a previous Toshiki Inoue production, or a returning character you’ve seen in another of his productions…If you can remember it through the haze of alcohol poisoning.

12. (addendum by Matthew Rhodes) take a shot anytime a women has something horrible happen to them, like dying
  • Take two if the horrible thing that happens to the women is a direct result of either a love triangle or miscommunication
13 (addendum august 2014): Take a shot anytime anyone dies while in a sitting position, due to an injury they took some time ago.

The first's thoughts (Kamen Rider Taisen related)

Adding something here I found on Tumblr, mainly because I wanted to keep it in the blog's archive.
It's lines concerning the upcoming Kamen Rider Film: "Heisei Rider vs. Showa Rider: Kamen Rider Taisen feat. Super Sentai"
"I will be playing Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo, one more time.
Being able to play Takeshi Hongo, who will have been fighting somewhere around the world to this day, fills me with joy and gratitude to all my seniors who built the base on which Kamen rider stands and the staff that made it all possible.
Bringing back a national, worldwide known hero created by the effort of so many people, Mr. Shotaro Ishinomori being the first, I feel again the duty and responsibility of living up to the hopes and the admiration that people from inside and outside the country have felt for the hero.
Why does a Rider keep fighting? What for?
He is a hero that fights for peace and happiness, keeping himself unknown and disregarding his own sadness and suffering.
I wish to convey this mythology through a hero movie to younger generations.
I have visited nearly a hundred countries, and members of different peoples welcomed me as the “Masked Rider”.
I’m proud and grateful to be a part of something that communicates an undying spirit of justice and the unwillingness to give up, and that this work has been welcomed around the world.
And finally, the memory most deeply rooted in my mind will be that motorcycle incident during filming*, in which I fought for my life and was able to rise again from fear and uncertainty. The memory of that experience and the emotions I felt are something I will never forget.
There will be no higher happiness for me than to be able, through this movie, to let someone feel the real hero of love and bravery and the image of a true man.
I look forward to meeting you all through the silver screen."
~Hiroshi Fujioka,
I Salute you, Sir.
And Eagerly hope that Kamen Rider Taisen lives up to the Hype that's being generated for the last outing.
